Old Spanish Trail Assn. Field Trip Saturday, November 10, 2007
Antonio Armijo's 1829-1830 Route Through Three Valleys of Clark County: Ivanpah, Goodsprings, and Sandy This tour focuses on the earliest Old Spanish Trail route through Southern Nevada. Led by Liz Warren, we'll take the old L.A. Highway (U.S. 91) to Jean Dry Lake, then cross under I-15 to the Bird Springs Range, and pass along its southern tip to Goodsprings. At the Goodsprings Community Center we'll learn about a Rails to Trails project that parallels 14 miles of the Old Spanish Trail. That project includes interpretation of the OST and Armijo's pioneering trek through the area. We'll finish by heading to Sandy Valley via Wilson's Pass and return via Columbia Pass Road.
Our Old Spanish Trail caravan will meet at the west end of the Silverton Lodge parking lot at the corner of Blue Diamond and Dean Martin (formerly Industrial) roads at 9 A.M. We'll double up where possible. Bring hat, lunch, water; wear sunblock and sturdy shoes.
About half of this trip will be over dirt (not gravel) roads. High clearance, but not 4WD, is needed. Rest room available only at Jean, Goodsprings and Sandy Valley; go easy on the caffeine!
Questions? Call Carol Corbett at 658-0725 or Liz Warren at 874-1410. Also, please let us know if you plan to join us.
