I was thinking about getting these books.

can anyone comment on them?

I see there are 3 books and it looks like one for northern Nevada, one for Southern Nevada, and one that combines the two.

Pretty good books. We have them all and like them. The best one is the big one that combines the two. It's a hard back and that's the one we use the most.

I have and use the big book too. Some of the maps are hard to go by, but if you have either of the Nevada Atlas's you'd be fine.

Most of the pics are really old, so you see these neat places and then go there and find it has really changed in 40 years.

But it's good for finding obscure places. I'd recommend it for any book collection.

I have Stan's original NEVADA GHOST TOWNS & MINING CAMPS, published in 1970. I bought it in the mid-1970s and it's ridden many a mile over 4WD trails to as many ghost towns as I have gotten to over the decades. It's water warped from my being caught in a flashflood in the 1980s in Twinn River in the Toiyabe Range (http://www.gbr.4wdtrips.net/essays/twinnrvr.htm); the spine is now broken and the cover fallen off. The book is full of my scribbles from annotating my findings on the ground. The maps have every road and ghost town visited since I bought the book, so basically the maps are one big mess.

I had purchased his two part revised books (1993 editions), but find I don't care for them and gave them to a friend years ago.

I've met Stan on numerous occasions at book signing events in Nevada and at other times. He's quite a character.

His original book is priceless.
