Anyone done this before? Tips and tricks? I'm especially wondering about the best way to tension the synthetic cable while spooling it onto the winch.

Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for the great instructions! Anyone have any suggestions on a location to spool the cable under load? Someplace where the LVMPD or security won't - ahem - object? :D

Do it in front of your house. If I remember right, you've got plenty of room.

Thought about that, but working in the courtyard would block the drives of four other houses, and finding room on the street that also wouldn't block parked cars would be a small miracle.

Nope, much like Jeepin', I need some wide open spaces.

If you're looking to do it tomorrow or Monday, take Christi to her place of employment and use their parking lot. It is more than big enough. Plus, Christi can run interference with security. If you want to do it on Monday, I can bring Shirley there to deal with security.

You could go out to Lava Butte and use one of the power towers or Rainbow Garden and use one of the boundry posts lining the trail. Just a thought.

The Allegiant parking lot ended up being a perfect size. Kinda fun dragging the TJ across the lot.

Two gotchas.... The hard part was changing the fairlead. Luckily I could reuse the existing bolts, otherwise I would have had to unmount the winch. The other hassle is the Smittybilt synthetic line I bought. It has a "permanently" attached hook, which means I need to break out the hacksaw in order to use my thimble on the new rope.

Thanks for all the advice! :D
