Converting Old ’87 Toyota Pickup to a Trailer?

Hello everyone. I have been a long time Toyota owner. I have a 1985 4Runner and a 1987 Toyota 4x2 pickup. The ’87 is getting to the end of its life. The engine runs rough and has trouble idling. I have moved here from Utah I don’t want to go through the hassle of registering it here in Nevada since it needs a lot of work.

Here are the details on the truck
1987 Toyota X-Cab Long Bed 4x2
4cyl 22R Carb
5sp Manual
228,000 miles
Utah Salvage Title

How hard would it be to convert this truck into a trailer in the state of Nevada? My biggest concern is the Utah Salvage Title and obtaining a Nevada license plate for this now trailer. I have gone to the Nevada DMV website and there was no clear answer.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I know law is a miserable read but it covers your vehicle and trailers among other things.

As far as I know as long as you can prove it's yours and it meets the requirements for a trailer in NV it's registerable.

I did the same thing with an old S-10 pickup. They mainly do a safety check inspection, create a VIN plate and new title for it. If you have the old title, just bring in case they ask, but I have never heard of anyone needed to prove ownership. They sometimes ask for receipts to create a value for registering purposes if it's home made.

Anyway these are the guidelines they inspect by, at least from my experience http://www.dmvnv.com/pdfforms/equipreqtr.pdf

thanks for all the great feed back.

as much as i did not want to sell this truck, it just seemed to be easier to sell it complete vs parting it out. I was very sad when it drove off to its new home, but i have a feeling that it will have a strong second life with our friends in mexico.

thank you again to everyone for all their suggestions.

Not particularly apples to apples, but for what it's worth.

Back in the 1960s, my father bought at an auction a 1950s U-Haul trailer, a small, open 6' single axle typical of the era for U-Haul. In 2009, after sitting for several years since Dad is well up in his 80s and hasn't driven for some years now, I brought the trailer home from California.

Registering it in Nevada was easy. I didn't bring the trailer to DMV, so the clerk gave me a form and suggested I have a county sheriff deputy sign off on it. He came over within a half hour of my calling and simply checked the license, title and the serial number (figures welded to the tongue). He then signed off on it, I went back to DMV and I got a new title and plate in minutes.
