The rear ear of my dana 30 rear axle track bar mount is cracked and will likely become unsafe if left. It seems about half the internet jeep denizens are pro-removal while the rest are terrified of driving around without it. Is there a consensus on trackbar love/hate among local backroaders? P.S. it has been awhile since I poked my head in here so hi there.   Added some pics |

I've removed both the front and rear trackbars off my 94. They were put on the yj's in the aftermath of cj5 & 7's rolling during a skid. The yj was designed with lower/flater springs and trackbars so that they would flatspin rather then catch and flip. Off road they are a limit to your suspension drooping enough and keeping the tires in contact with the ground. Besides, if you're running aftermarket springs they are stiff enough to "locate and center" the axle which is another thing the trackbars do. Now on a tj with coil springs I would never run without trackbars. Coil spring don't stop lateral movement of the axles or vehicle. JMHO and YMMV |

I had an 88 YJ and removed the rear track bar years ago and never had a problem. I don't remember if I had the front one out, but I do know that I left the front sway bar disconnected for the entire last year I owned it and never had a problem with that either. |

We have a 94 YJ. I pulled the front and rear track bars and haven't had any problems. |

Thanks folks. I ended up yanking the rear sway bar and leaving the front alone. I perceive a bit more body roll towards the rear in tight corners but nothing to worry about. The frame end mount bolt on the rear was a real pain with a #55 torx type bolt head and a standard 13/16" nut on the other end with the exhaust pipe and shocks in the way. I used kroil penetrating oil on the bolt and gave it a few days. After taking my jeep off road to flex the joint under pressure to break the bolt free of rust and corrosion it finally loosened. |
