I'm thinking of installing a 2" bugget boost for my 01 TJ. What exactly is involved with installing this.

budget boosts for tj's involve spacers that go on top of the coil springs. some come with longer bump stops and some don't, and some come with 1" transfer case drop spacers. to install the spring spacers you remove the springs, usually with a spring compressor, then put the spacers in and reinstall the springs. if it has bump stop extensions you switch those out before putting the springs back in as they are inside the spring. drive the jeep and if it feels like the rear driveshaft wants to walk out from under the jeep you'll know you need the transfer case drop spacers. some do, some dont. oh yeah, you'll probably want to invest in 4 slightly longer shocks too. hope this helps. 8)

Pete,

If you need help installing a lift, I have done several in my '00 TJ. Contact me, and I'll let you know what I have gone through to do a spring and shock lift. (pucks optional)

Pete,

I have a pair of Old Man Emu Shocks for the front that should fit your Jeep. They came off of my 05 TJ.

They were on for a little over a year but when I went to a 3" spring lift and swaybar disconnects (from a 2" budget boost) I went to a longer shock for the front.

They are yours if you want them.

If you can find some stock Rubicon springs really cheap (look around for post lift leftovers) use those under your tj for better spring rate. I have had the rubi springs with a puck lift for 3-4years now and it works great. I did have to use the 1" belly pan drop for drive line vibe. I didn't get the bump stops so it rubs the fenders when the wheels are stuffed (31" tires). 2" longer shocks are very good but not absolutely a must. Sometimes you need the spring compressor sometimes not but sooo much eisier with it.

'00 TJ
2" puck lift /Stock Rubicon springs
1" Transfer drop (my belly is bent)
31" tires
Rear Locker
engine skid, gas skid, rock bumpers
winch
Can do 3.5-4.0 trails

Pete...

A few years ago, we installed a 2 inch Budget Boost on our 2003 TJ. It was made by Rubicon Express and was a little over $200.00. Brad is right, the kit consists 2 inch "pucks", that go on top of the coil springs. Ours also came with extended bump stops and a set of longer shocks made by Rancho. It did not come with extensions to drop the transfer case, as it was not needed. It runs fine and installed it at a work party. It took a couple of hours.

I also have a 1" T-case drop if you need it.

When I did my 2" spacer lift I went with new shocks because I still had the stock shocks. New/better shocks were a great improvement to the ride/handling of the Jeep. The stock shocks are pretty whimpy. While it is not necessary to replace the shocks, if yours are still stock - I would suggest some new ones.
