Hi all,

As I was doing some maintenance on my Trooper I noticed that one of my shocks is leaking. With 95k miles on it, I'm not surprised that it's time to start replacing "stuff".

I have a limited budget and don't do that much off roading, so I don't want to go with high dollar shocks. I'm looking at the Rancho RS5000s or the Pro Comp ES5000s.

Any input on either of these shocks or recommendations for a different shock all together? I'm trying to stay in the $200 - $250 range (that's for all four, not just one! LOL!!!) Any recommendations for where to buy them either locally or on-line?

I've never owned any so I can't say for sure, but the Rancho 5000 series are notorious for being really stiff. So you get a rougher ride. I have heard the Pro Comps are a better ride compared to the 5000's.

if you were satisfied with the stock ones for 95000 miles, why not stick with those?

I could certainly replace stock with stock, but I figure this is a good opportunity to upgrade with slightly better shocks. If I can buy better shocks for slightly more money than the stock ones cost, that's what I'd like to do.

Joanne, I have had good luck with Duechtec (sp) around 40.00 each and Bilsteen around 60.00 each on my built TJ. I have Skyjacker 7000 rear a d Skyjacker 8000 series 40.00 each on my new JK and so far like them very much.

I don't know if they make them for your Trooper or not, but I have BDS shocks on my jeep and the ride is GREAT.

I'm running the RS5000's on my TJ and am satisfied with the performance. Seems mine are a bit soft rather than stiff but I prefer it that way.

i'm sure they feel soft after the beating you and angie have given them in the last couple years. :lol: i run rancho 9000's and they are nice because i can dial in the ride to the conditions. 8)

hello joanne i have the pro comp es9000's on my truck they are alittle harsh on the street but offroad they are pretty nice. so you'll have to find your happy medium. i know that rancho makes the 9 way ajustable shocks so you might go that route so you can have the best of both worlds for on and offroad. If you are going with the rancho's they are on sale now with the buy 3 get one free deal. goodluck in your quest for new shocks.

I run the 9000 Rancho's as well, but they are more geared for folks that like to adjust things constantly IMO. I like them since I can dial them up for towing, and drop them for off roading. But I can't see paying the extra money for them if someone isn't going to be adjusting them for changing conditions. I'd likely adjust them more if I ever get around to installing the in cab controls.

Be sure to get something that has a good warranty. Most any good shock manufacturer will guarantee them for life. Shocks do eventually wear, and even occasionally die.
