What's most important at this point is that they match front and rear.
Like Bob said if they don't and you engage 4x4 it will break things

Just so we are clear on this gear ratio thing. If the gears don't match and you engage 4 wheel drive you might break things. I have also heard and seen that even if the gear ratios do match and you engage 4 wheel drive there is a possibility you might break things. This Jeeping thing is sooooooooooo confusing and expensive.

Here is a picture of the Jeep. I am going to check out the gear deal this weekend. I will also be installing some hooks and what not. I already have a cb and a garmin gps. I picked it up for $2500  Its a 97se with 60k miles. I hope to have the gears sorted out this weekend and also have the sway bar disconnects done also. It should be painted in the next few weeks also, then it will be good to go for a while.

Why have it painted. It will only get the standard desert pinstriping. If you want some help figuring out the gears, send my a PM. I should be free all weekend.

It just needs a respray. Thats the reason I got it so cheap. The guy tried to repaint it himself after it got all faded in the sun. His painting was less than stellar. He started to sand it back down to repaint it again so there is bare metal in spots. I am just going to scuff it and repaint it real quick just to keep it from rusting. Nothing special.

Expensive? I am trying this out as a way to have a cheap hobby! I have been in to performance boating for the last 19 years, I was thinking this would be a lot less money  I already found a m416 so I can start my trailer after that is done I plan to do some camping. I figure its going to be cheaper than $500 a weekend in boat gas
