March 20th is the first day of spring. Why don’t we celebrate it with a hike through the Narrows at the Anniversary Mine? This is in the Lake Mead Recreation Area. The hike is several miles long (4-6, depending on where we start), with a bit of boulder scrambling, though most of the hike is pretty flat. The scenery is fantastic. Here’s some information:

http://www.birdandhike.com/Hike/LAME/Lo ... arrows.htm

We’ll meet at 9:00, at the point where you leave the pavement on Lake Mead’s Northshore Road. If we have enough cars with good clearance (I may have non-Jeep friends coming from work) we can drive everyone to the mouth of the Narrows and start the hike from there. Here’s a map, with the meeting spot marked as “Trailhead”. The point we might be able to drive to is marked “End of Road”:

If anyone’s interested, I can send you Google Earth bookmarks too. I just don’t know how to attach them to this message. Email me at dawn.nelson@csn.edu.

You’ll need to pay a fee when you enter the Lake Mead Recreation Area. Kids and dogs are welcome. You don’t need to tell me if you’re planning to come. Just show up! Mark your calendars, because I won’t be sending out any reminders.

Hope to see you there,
Dawn

You can get there any way you like! Bitter Springs is nice, if a bit out of the way....
The Narrows are just off the road that leads up to Anniversary Mine. The road to the mine dips down into a wash before climbing steeply up to the mine, toward the left. If you follow the wash to the right instead, you get to the narrows.

The turn off to the Narrows is mile marker 16 on North Shore Road

Well, Brad, it would be wonderful to see you, whether or not you could do the hike. I'm sure you know a heck of a lot more about that area than I do!
