depending on where in town you live you 1st have to get to north nellis blvd and east lake mead blvd. this is the lake mead that goes thru the north side of town not the lake mead that is also called st. rose pkwy on the south side of town. from nellis and lake mead head east up the hill like you're going to the lake. you'll twist and turn your way to where pabco road braches off to the left. ahead you'll see high power lines crossing the road and underneath them is a pull out on the right with a sign board showing the trails. i usually run lave butte south, it's graded powerline road mostly, then cut over and run rainbow gardens back north, it's also graded road. just past the gardens is the branch to the left that is middle wash trail which turns into wheeling in a wash bottom and connects to kodacrome where i turn left and head south. kodacrome is more of a 2 track jeep trail that is fun and not too tough. it drops you out down by the las vegas wash wetlands area and you can pick up hollywood to vegas valley and back to nellis. let me know when you guys are going and if i'm free i'll be glad to lead you. 8)

Sounds good.
I live on the far NW side. I think I might head up to Mt. Charleston and scout out some Forestry roads there. Looks like there are quite a few to explore, and nearly impossible to get lost.

I just dug out my Magellan GPS. Any tips on getting local GPS routes to download? I mainly use it to backtrack.

Maybe a database of coordinates would be useful. I can create my own route on my GPS and then save them.

Check out this link someone sent me...

Is that Blue Diamond Wash legal for OHV use?

Cris,
I clicked on your link, but Trail Raters said that the forum doesn't exist.

I have added a couple of maps to trail raters, just now getting to the point where I can add some more in the future. I found on my old GPS there are many trails on it that I have run while out doing Geocaching. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will add to their web site.

my advice is the same as you'll get from blm and usfs, if it's not posted open to travel consider it closed. basically if you get out there and don't see any carsonites with an approved trail number on them then consider it a closed trial and save yourself a ticket if you should run into a ranger. also keep in mind that offroad travel is not permited inside the confines of the las vegas valley due to dust control issues. so if you're within the mountains that encircle las vegas and create this valley and traveling offroad you are out of bounds and eligable for a ticket. since i've never traveled in the blue diamond wash i can't give you a yes or no. keep the above info in mind when you go out there and make you own decision. 8)

in the trail discription on trailraters.com of the blue diamond wash trail he mentions getting to a dam and "Once at the dam, you'll climb the hill to see some abandoned mines. For some reason, the path is blocked by gigantic rocks...". this is usually a good indication that travel beyond that point isn't wanted for some reason, private property or danger, and by continueing i'd say you are out of bounds. i'm not an expert at this stuff, just a guy that's wheeled the desert for years and has a litle experiance, so if you want to run it good luck. i'm staying away from it. 8)

I assumed as much. I'll take all of that into consideration as trails are posted on the trailguide site.
I'm a "better safe than sorry" type of decision maker. $1000 fine buys a new bumper or lift! :)
