some of us are conspiring to go wheeling this coming Thursday.

This week's exploration will take out past the dam into Arizona and on to the ghost town of Cyclopic.

well, that's the plan anyway. Supposedly easy trail listed in BackCountry Adventures Arizona, I think #29 if you have that book. "White Hills" trail.

I've never done this trail or know what's out there, so I'm not sure what the protocol is on vehicle ability.
Supposed to be very scenic, so bring a camera....and lunch.

EDIT:

having breakfast at the McDonald's in Boulder City about 8:15 am or so. leaving to explore at 9. THAT McDONALD'S IS THE MEETING PLACE.
there is a gas station or two nearby, or fill up as yo enter town.

May check out El Dorado Jeep trail, too

sorry, I re-edited the original post.

it's the McDonald's in Boulder City that is the meeting point.

Ive done this trail in my stock Grand Cherokee. It was ok, but the Pack Saddle Loop trail, #28 in the book, is a much better trail. I did that one in my stock Tracker, the end was a bit tough but doable. I would like to do the Pack Saddle trail again sometime.

Packsaddle's eleventy-billion times better when you run it backwards, starting from Chloride and climbing that way.

have to talk to Bob about it, but this looks like club run material in the future.

took a few wrong turns and so the path would need to be thoroughly GPS'd, but we found the Fry Mine, Cyclopic, wildlife, scenery, BIG Joshua trees....and the coolest tailings pile you will ever see. pics to come.

trail ends up at Gregg's Hideout Rd and Pierce Ferry intersection.

if you want a longer day, it's about another hour of dirt time to Hackberry, AZ and the Route 66 souvenir shop. more trails out that way according to the girl selling jewelry. anyway...lovely end to the day at The Cracker Barrel in Kingman.

good day in the dirt.

thanks to all for coming and putting up with my navigational failure. :D

I really wanted to go on that run, JJ, but I'm down a tire and my new ones won't be in until November sometime. I didn't want to chance not having a spare and running on one bad tire already.

It sounds like a cool trail and a fun time. Do you have a Garmin GPS? If so, could you email me the tracks so I can see where it was that you were and for future reference? I'd appreciate it.

later!!

haha...the GPS I had to use was a brand labeled "bethseptember's GPS"

:D

we are going to head out that way again, definitely. we ended up taking so many wrong turns that a definitive GPS track was not doable.

she Magellan anyway.

I'm looking for a new GPS!

I have the little eTrex and it's not up to snuff!

oh I see.

if I do that, I'll have to bail on Hump n bump, since I'm probably going back to TX for Thanksgiving, and can't take too many weekends off. not necessarily cuz I can't, but because it messes with everyone else's schedule.

this is a pretty cool run. very stock friendly.

talk to me about dates.

No, I am on vacation this week. Went to Big Bear for the weekend prior, that's why I wasn't at the clean up run, then have been getting stuff done at home. Back to that four lettered place on Monday. :(
