Post subject:  Open Invitation for Sedona Arizona Trip

Hi. Right now I am in the pre-planning stages of a trip my wife and I will be taking to Sedona Arizona from November 7th until November 14th.

The tentative plan is to do some offroading on Saturday and Sunday (Nov 8th & Nov 9th) then spend the day in Sedona seeing the sights on Monday Nov 10th, then back on some trails on Tuesday & Wednesday (Nov 11th & Nov 12th) followed by a day of Sedona on Thursday the 13th. We’ll probably leave Sedona around noon on Friday Nov 14th.

I haven’t decided on any trails as of yet but will be using the “Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails” by Charles Wells. We will only be doing easy to moderate trails as rated in the guide book, maybe find out the trails the Pink Jeep Tours take.

You can join us for part of the trip, or just a day here and a day there. (I would prefer to travel into the boonies with at least one other vehicle). This will be a good time of the year to visit Sedona so if anyone has any suggestions for “must do” trails in the area drop me an e-mail.

9/20/2008 UPDATE -
For those interested in attending, we will be staying at Villas at Poco Diablo, 1752 Highway 179, PO Box 2252, Sedona AZ, 86339. A RSVP would be nice so we know how many to look for on each day. My intent is not to lead a run but rather to travel as a group. If you want to lead, that is fine by me. I can be reached at jrhuey@cox.net or by phone at 619-301-9039. If it goes to voice mail leave a message and I will get back to you. As I get some RSVP's I'll update this post. JimH

I visited Sedona two years ago and took one of the Jeep Tours. It was a great tour because they actually did some rock crawling. I have no idea what trails they did, however.

I would be interested in possibly meeting up with you guys for the Saturday and/or Sunday trail runs.

Keep me posted on your plans.

Here is a list of trails broken down into single day trips based upon proximity to each other and time required to run each trail. Any extra time during the day will be spent relaxing having a cold beer. We typically like to get out and do some walking and get some pictures while we’re out so there’s no hurry to rush thru the trail. Schedule may change due to unforeseen circumstances ie: weather etc… Feel free to provide constructive feedback.

Saturday November 8th
Van Deren Cabin
Greasy Spoon
Oak Creek Homestead (if time permits)

Sunday November 9th (This will be a long day trip)
Town of Jerome
Smiley Rock
Mingus Mountain

Tuesday November 11th
Broken Arrow
Soldier Pass
Oak Creek Homestead

Wednesday November 12th (This will be a long day trip)
Schnebly Hill Road
Hutch Mountain
Return trip thru Flagstaff/Oak Creek Canyon

Smiley Rock is a great trail! (And the rock really does have a smile! If you're into Geocaching, there's one right there!) You should really enjoy it and the rest of your trip! I wish I could make it!!

We did a drive through of the area in January. Left out of Sedona and went to Jerome (neet little town) and then took the dirt back to Williams.

We had a great time and I have been wanting to go back.....this just might be the chance.

I've been to Sedona several times and always hiked.
I did take the Pink Jeep tour thru Broken Arrow and it is awsome!
I'd like to try the Jeep thing in my own jeep, so I'll be there! I might have to leave early Saturday morning to make the first run. That's to be decided later.
Can't wait!

Would my vehicle be appropriate for these trails? I've been on a few club runs, a fun run down to burrow wash.

I have a new-to-me vehicle: 2005 Toy 4Runner 4x4, stock.

I just took it to the top of frenchman peak/sunrise mountain Friday for it's inaugural offroading.

Whaddya think?

hey there,
found someone, or two, to work for me.
will have to drive up saturday, so where can we meet for sunday?
coffee pot restaurant has over 100 0melets.
will be staying at airport/sky lodge motel.
thursday is a full moon, so a night run up chavez ranch road ends at a plateau perfect for watching the moon come up over cathedral rock.
lived there for 5 years, yet had a stock toyota p/u.
now it is my turn to wheel where i could only hike.
your itinerary was too good to miss.

How far is the drive to Sedona? If it's not too far, maybe we'll go. We're shiney and brand new to the forum. But we would like to get out and go play.

it's about 275 miles, give or take, from las vegas to sedona. basically go across the dam to kingman, catch I40 to flagstaff then turn right on I17 and follow the signs. a google search should find the places to stay and such. 8)

Hi.
Would like to join up with you on Tues and Wed. Also, do not want to be alone when in the back country. Was in Moab last week and drove through Sedona and talked with a forest ranger, interesting information. Will get the Wells book. And....will be in Vegas (Logandale) for the Hump n' Bump on Nov. 7,8,9. Then will head to Sedona. We may have met, I was in Ely at the end of July for the runs.

no offense to the loyal Toy Crowd.
my p/u was totally stock '92. no traction on dirt or ice/snow.
slid off into a ditch or two driving to Flagstaff Medical Center for am shifts.
got to know this one snow plow driver, he would see me struggling up the last switch backs on 89A out of the Oak Creek Canyon and pull me out of ditch when i slid off road.
never disppointed him, finally found a job below snow line in Cottonwood.
looking forward to the red rock canyons.
